NJ TRANSIT Police Department's Information and Technology Unit is located at Police Headquarters and charged with various planning, design, integration and implementation of technical programs and systems, and coordinates the administration of these programs with various agencies.

Additionally, the ITU staff supports the information technology life cycle and assists in research, functional reviews, performance testing and policy drafting of all projects implemented, enhanced or under consideration by the Police Department.

This unit supports the Police Department's existing mission and critical technology applications including Computer-aided Dispatch, Mobile Data Terminals, AFIS systems and Central Communications Center. The ITU maintains records governing certification for the entire department with regard to NCIC/CJIS access. The unit also ensures compliance with Federal Bureau of Investigations and State regulations through the coordination of operator training, validation of entries into NCIC and assistance with audits.
