Captain Bivona joined NJTPD in 2003. Prior to serving with NJTPD, he worked with the NJ State Department of Corrections since 1999. Captain Bivona worked in D2, served with the NJTPD J.U.S.T.I.C.E Team, the Essex County Rapid Deployment Team (R.D.T.),  NJTPD/ NPD Newark Safe Streets Initiative Team, the NJTPD Emergency Service Unit E.S.U. (Founding Officer), the NJTPD E.S.U. as a Supervisor, and the Presidential Inaugural Police Details for 2005 President Bush and 2009 President Obama.

Captain Bivona was promoted to F.T.O. (Field Training Officer) in 2006 working in D2. He joined the J.U.S.T.I.C.E Team and was also on the E.S.U. Team. Bivona was promoted to Sergeant in 2011, working in D2, D5, D6, D7 and Spec Ops E.S.U.  He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2018 working as Tour Commander in D2, D3 and D4.  He was promoted to Captain in 2025 and currently serves as the Commanding Officer of D4. 

Captain Bivona Graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Montclair State University in 2000, he graduated the Sea Girt Police Academy (NJ State Department of Corrections) in 1999, and the Trenton Police Academy for N.J.T.P.D. in 2003.  At the Trenton Police Academy, he ranked #1 in his Class.

Captain Bivona is the recipient of the Department Valor Award, twice was awarded  the Meritorious Service Award, three times awarded the Police Excellence Award, three times awarded the Life Saving Award, six times Awarded the Police Unit Citation Award, was awarded the 911 Award for efforts beyond the call of duty (9-11-01 rescue worker operations), awarded the Essex County Valor Award, The Academic Award from Trenton Police Academy, and he also received the Honor Legion Award.

Captain Bivona is a certified Firearms Instructor, Rifle instructor,  Low Light Shooting Instructor, Active Shooter Instructor, Scuba Instructor, HazMat Technician Specialist in (Radiological Weapons, Biological Weapons, and Chemical Weapons), Rail Car HAZMAT Specialist, Fire Fighter 1, Swat Commander , Swat School 1&2 , CBRNE Specialist, Urban Search and Rescue USAR Technician Specialist, High Angle Rope Rescue Specialist, Swift Water Specialist 1&2, Heavy Vehicle Extrication Specialist, Trench Rescue Specialist, Black Water Search and Rescue Specialist, Black Water Diver, Subterranean Anti-Terrorism Diver,  Honor Guard School, Protestor Device Specialist and State Safety Officer.

Captain Bivona was a founding member of the NJ Transit Honor Guard and Serves as Honor Guard Commander. Captain Bivona also served on the FOP Executive Board as Secretary. He is a proud member of the Italian American Police Society and State Honor Legion.
