Dennis Wells -
Captain of Special Operations

Captain Dennis Wells is the Commanding Officer of NJ TRANSIT Police Special Operations. He oversees the Department's K-9 and Emergency Services Units and directs agency response during critical incidents.

Captain Wells joined the NJ Transit Police Department in 2006, working as a patrol officer in Hoboken, Trenton, and Newark Commands until assignment to the Emergency Services Unit in 2011. He was promoted to sergeant in 2012 and worked the next 5 years in Newark Penn Station as a shift supervisor.  After being promoted to lieutenant in 2017, he performed the duties of tour commander until appointed Executive Officer of Special Operations later that year.  He was promoted to Captain in 2021.

Captain Wells holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, having graduated in 1999.  After the September 11th attacks, he enlisted in the United States Army and served as an infantryman for four years with two combat tours in Iraq.  He is a graduate of the Essex County College Police Academy.
