Inspector Of District 3
Inspector Luis Perez is the Commanding Officer of Transit District 3. He directs and controls the daily police operations in Hudson County. Inspector Perez's Transit District includes Hoboken Terminal and the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail.
Inspector Perez joined NJ Transit Police in 2003. He began his career assigned to the Patrol Division in Transit Districts 2, 3, and 4 before being assigned to the Anti-Crime Unit in 2010. In 2012, he was promoted to Patrol Sergeant and worked Transit District 2 and he supervised Central Communications. In 2017, he was promoted to Lieutenant and served as a Patrol Tour Commander in Districts 2, 3, and 4. He was promoted to Captain in 2021 and served as the afternoon watch commander for the Patrol Division. He was promoted to Police Inspector in 2026 and currently serves as the Commanding Officer of Transit District 3.
Inspector Perez is the recipient of a Police Commendation Award, Life Saving Award, and a Unit Citation Award. He holds an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Bergen Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness from Thomas Edison State University. He is a graduate of the 2003-03 Essex County Police Academy class.
